April Showers Brings May Flowers: A Phonological Awareness Challenge

Phonological awareness, especially at the phoneme level, plays a crucial role in literacy development and has an indirect impact on reading comprehension. This session describes how an intermediate school district in Michigan promoted the integration of daily phonological awareness activities with a teacher “challenge.” This active session is devoted to learning and practicing various playful lessons to support early phonological development.
