Promoting Literacy During Message Board

Findings from videos of preschool teaching practices taken in state-funded preschool programs, coded using Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy: Prekindergarten, indicate that morning message time may be one of the most literacy-rich times of the day. Preschool teachers use strategies promoting literacy more during morning message time than even small-group time or read-aloud time. This session will transfer research into practical strategies for classroom practice and will teach participants how to develop literacy-rich content for use during message board time.
